A proud and queenly Unicorne,
Her spiralling horn a-gleaming,
Came prancing down yon forest path
Upon a Summer's Evening...
She chanced to meet a Gryphon dire,
Which roared and beat his winges--
His talons raked the greensward
As he bellowed: "I am King!"
The Unicorne laughed and shook her head:
"Thou art mistaken, Sir!
For I am Queen of all Magic Beasts
Of Feathers, Scales and Fur."
The Gryphon's eagle eyes did blaze,
His lion's tail was lashing;
"Conceited donkey with a horn!
Prepare to get a thrashing!"
Just then a Dragon, belching flame,
Came whiffling through the wood;
The Gryphon and Unicorne fled in fear,
Both their rumps got scorched good!
So do not boast that you're the best;
There's always someone who
Can take you down a peg or three
To-whit, to-whee, to-woo!!!
